'Die Hard' prequel continues its run of bad ideas by not naming it 'Die Hard'

At some point, someone’s going to have to drop the ‘Die Hard’ prequel off a building after nailing it in the head with a gun strapped to your back with Christmas gift-wrapping tape.

Empire Magazine confirmed with producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura that the sixth ‘Die Hard’ movie won’t even bear the name of its five predecessors, but will instead be called…. wait for it… ‘McClane’. That sound you’re probably hearing is the sound of ‘Die Hard’ dying a slow and painful death. It’s literally dying hard.

Anyway, according to Di Bonaventura, "you can tell our intention by the fact that the title page we handed in says, ‘MCCLANE’" and that the intent of it is "to get invested in John McClane more than ever before.” Ah-huh. Sure. OK. Di Bonaventura went on, adding that as much as McClane will be set in the ’70s and focus on McClane in his twenties, the 60-year old version played by Bruce Willis will be just as prominent.

Chad and Carey W. Hayes – who previously wrote ‘The Conjuring’ and ‘The Conjuring 2’, as well as the Spielberg-produced, Ireland-filmed gothic horror ‘The Turning’ – have completed their screenplay and pre-production is expected to kick off pretty soon.

As we’ve said before, this is a terrible idea and the only way this could possibly work is if John McTiernan – who’s currently out of jail and ready to work – is brought back in to direct. Then – AND ONLY THEN – can this possibly have a chance of working.
